Formula Ford newcomer Luke set to fly for Falcon

Luke Reade swaps karts for single-seaters to make his EcoBoost Formula Ford debut at RockinghamPlans to contest Silverstone and Brands Hatch rounds also as a taster for 2014 season

The Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain is to gain another competitor for the balance of the season in the shape of experienced karter Luke Reade. The Kent 19-year-old will make his championship debut this weekend (14/15 Sept) at Rockingham in a Falcon Motorsport-prepared Mygale alongside series frontrunner Harrison Scott and Falcon’s other new signing, Macau racer Andy Chang.

Luke, son of motorsport memorabilia retailer Alex Reade, first drove for Falcon when he won a test with a team after starring in last year’s Henry Surtees All Star Challenge kart event at Buckmore Park. “That’s how we got to know Nick Streatfield and Falcon, and I was offered a drive for the full season but couldn’t quite get the budget together,” said Luke. “Then this chance came up to do the last three meetings, and we snatched it up. It’s very early to talk about next season but this will be a good taster for us and if it all goes well we can look at full season in 2014.”

Reade, from Keston, near Bromley, is a CGI artist with a London studio; he enjoys the backing of environmental research company Cracking Energy Machines and Alex Reade Motorsport. Luke has been karting since 2009; his first and only car race was in May this year when he drove a historic Formula Ford.

The weekend’s Rockingham Formula Ford rounds have attracted a 13-car field. In addition to series newcomers Reade and Chang, 21-year-old Jack Dex will make his championship debut at the wheel of an SWB Motorsport Sinter. After missing the Knockhill races, Meridian Motorsport returns with 16-year-old prospect Connor Mills.

Runaway points leader Dan Cammish has the opportunity to secure the championship title this weekend; the JTR man may be able to clinch it in the final race of the Rockingham weekend live on ITV4.
