Keen leads the Sunoco Whelen Challenge

in the race to compete in the TUDOR Championship and the Rolex 24 At Daytona‏

Another busy weekend for the Radical racers at Oulton Park this weekend where they were all racing hard towards their Championships whilst also accruing points towards the 2015 Sunoco Challenge which rewards two competent drivers the prize of a lifetime with a drive on the World famous Daytona International Speedway!

We are a third of our way in to the season now and the Challenges are well underway! The 2015 Sunoco Whelen Challenge sees Phil Keen, driving for Marks Electrical, holding his place at the top of the table for the last month now, with his team mate, Peter Belshaw, following closely in his slipstream. But with quite a few months of the season left, it is anyone's guess who will take the Prize drive in the Marsh Racing run Chevrolet Corvette in the 2015 Rolex 24 At Daytona!

Current standings for the 2015 Sunoco Whelen Challenge:

Phil Keen 96.00 Radical SR3 Challenge Peter Belshaw 80.00 Radical SR3 Chall Tristan Viidas 79.88 Radical SR8 Euro M Nicola Baldan 66.67 EUROV8SERIES Alex Kapadia 65.00 Radical SR8 Euro M In the 2015 Sunoco 200 Challenge Steve Burgess, driving with RAW, in Radical Clubman's Cup is also holding his lead in the standings, if he continues this run for the rest of the season we could see him in with a chance of racing in the 200 mile race on the Friday before the Rolex 24 At Daytona. He is followed in the standings by the young Swedish racer, Oskar Kruger, who is driving with ER Performance, in the same Clubman's class, and also battling for the top position!

Current standings for the 2015 Sunoco 200 Challenge:

1. Steve Burgess 110.83 Radical Clubmans 2. Oskar Kruger 104.17 Radical Clubmans 3. David Walley 102.17 GT Cup 4. Toby Sowery 100.67 F3 Cup 5 .Chris Knox 95.00 MINI Challenge Anders Hildebrand of Anglo American Oil Company Ltd. who runs the Challenges said this about the level of talent we have seen win the Sunoco Challenges in previous years:

"This is the 6th year we are promoting the Sunoco Whelen Challenge (formerly known as the Sunoco Daytona Challenge) and it is, as always, totally open, although British GT star Phil Keen right now is showing great promise! It is also exciting that two former Challenge runner-ups, Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne, and 2012 year winner Felipe Nasr, are all now active on the F1 scene - the Sunoco Whelen Challenge certainly appeals to some excellent drivers for the prospect of putting on that much sought after Rolex watch. Likewise, the Sunoco 200 Challenge now in its 4th year, is capturing the imagination of the club racer and we have some seriously fast and capable drivers in the hunt for the Chevrolet Camaro prize drive. However, it is still very early days and with over 140 racers registered for both Challenges I'm sure that both Phil Keen and Steve Burgess will push on to keep their challengers at bay!"

In last year's 2014 Sunoco Challenges, we saw the two Radical Champions, Bradley Smith, 2013 SR3 Challenge Champion and Lewis Plato, 2013 Clubman's Cup Champion, take the prize drives, and with Radical racers currently leading the standings, who knows who will take the win at the end of the season!
