NICOLA BALDAN (MERCEDES) RETAINS TIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD WITH THIRD PLACE
Tomas Kostka clearly didn’t want to disappoint the fans that came to see him at his own racetrack in Brno, and so he put together a stellar performance to dominate Race 1 in Czech Republic. The local star cruised to a large win on his Audi Sport Italia-prepared RS5 car and started well in round 4 of the 2014 EUROV8SERIES. Francesco Sini, driving a Chevrolet Camaro for Solaris Motorsport, took second place by fending off the attacks of Nicola Baldan and his R.R.T. Mercedes C63 AMG.
Kostka laid the foundations of his win in the opening laps, as he quickly made up the ground lost at the start on Sini and Baldan. Then he never looked back while his two opponents started their own duel.
Two BMW M3 cars ran smoothly for Team BMW Dinamic. Maurizio Copetti got the nod of team-mates Max Mugelli and Niccolò Mercatali while Ermanno Dionisio ended up as the best gentleman preceding the Mercedes C63 AMG of Diego Romanini. They will share the front row of Race 2 with Romanini holding the pole. The Lexus ISF of Giovanni Lavaggi also put together a consistent performance while a gear selection issue stopped rookie Emanuele Zonzini on lap 1.
Thanks to his pole and his win, Kostka trimmed his championship gap to Baldan to two points. In third, Mercatali also has two points more than Francesco Sini.
