Tiago Monteiro finishes just off the podium at Spa WTCC

The outcome of the 13th and 14th races of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, WTCC, exceeded Tiago Monteiro's expectations this weekend. Starting from 11th and 6th places on the grid for the two races at Spa-Francorchamps, the Portuguese driver made two great starts that enabled him to fight with the top 4 on both occasions.

After a few fierce battles, Tiago crossed the line in the points for 6th place in race one, less than a tenth of a second behind fourth. Then, after fighting for a podium position in the second race, he eventually crossed the line in 4th, a half-second behind third.

These two results allowed Honda to score some big points and Tiago has now consolidated his 4th place in the drivers' championship. "To do better, was impossible!" summarized Tiago. "I gave my best and I pushed to the maximum. Unfortunately, it was impossible to compete with Citroën. I made two good starts that allowed me to achieve two good results, which is very important in terms of the championships."

This weekend in Belgium was the last final round on European soil and the 2014 season will now move to America and Asia. "We have gradually improved the Honda Civic and have obtained the best results with the equipment we have. It is still not enough to fight with the best team, but it is important to keep the fighting spirit and never give up. Spa has shown us that we could be rewarded nicely for our efforts."

The next round of the FIA WTCC races will take place in Argentina, on the 2nd and 3rd of August.
