Markus Pommer sets early pace in Auto GP Imola Round

German driver Markus Pommer set the fastest lap of the day so far in Imola in the opening Auto GP practice session at the Italian venue. Pommer topped the charts with a personal best lap of 1 minute and 32.380 seconds, edging Euronova Racing’s Kimiya Sato by 4 tenths of a second. The Japanese is the current championship leader and he’s coming back after missing the previous event at Monza. Running behind him were an Italian pair made of female racer Michela Cerruti, driving for Super Nova and Kevin Giovesi (FMS). Pal Varhaug, who was the 2012 runner-up, also made a good return to the series this weekend by rounding out the top-5.Sixth place went to Zele Racing’s Cristopher von Grunigen, lining-up for his second appearance this season. He was followed by Italians Andrea Roda (Virtuosi UK), Giuseppe Cipriani (Ibiza Racing) and Francesco Dracone (Super Nova). The top-10 was completed by Hungarian racer Tamas Pal Kiss, driving for Zele RacingThe second session of free practice will be taking place this afternoon at 15:20. Qualifying will go underway tomorrow with two knockout rounds that will shape-up the starting order. Race 1 will start Saturday afternoon at 15:15 and will run on a 20-lap distance, while the 17-lap long Race 2 will take-off at 11:40. Both races will be televised live by international TV network Eurosport.
