Fontes,Ibran on D1 podium at Spanish Endurance Championship

It was a good weekend for Buggy Experience Racing Team even though the team was forced to retire in Race two because Ginetta G55 had mechanical problems. In race one Javier Ibrán and Álvaro Fontes were 2nd in D1 on the Spanish track

In spite of a weekend that could have been better, Javier Ibrán and Álvaro Fontes were pretty happy with their performance at the wheel of the Buggy Experience Racing Team´s Ginetta G55 at Motorland Aragón, the track where round two of the Spanish Endurance Championship took part. Fontes, on his debut with this car, teamed up with Ibrán and the pair finished on the podium in race one.

On Saturday the team focused on car set-up during the free practice sessions and later, in qualifying, Ibrán set a best lap time of 2:07.897, third fastest among D1 cars on the starting grid for race one, and Fontes, posting a lap of 2:04.414, was equally third in class for race two. Ibrán, in the opening stint in race one, carried out a good performance, avoiding mistakes and handing over to Fontes by the halfway point. Fontes completed the race, overtaking several cars and finishing second in D1 even when certain mechanical problems have already emerged. Liquid on the windshield from steering pump prevented Fontes from correct visibility at the end, mainly on left hand corners. The same problem forced to retire the car on lap two, when Fontes was driving.

“I wasn´t particularly happy on Saturday, but then on Sunday we improved and actually my fastest lap time was quicker than my qualifying lap. On the whole I feel happy with our second place and because my driving style already fits the car”, Fontes explained.

His teammate Ibrán stressed that “to share the car with Álvaro was a rewarding experience. Now we take even more out from the car, but sadly another mechanical problem costed us win in race one and to retire in race two. Anyway we are still improving the car and learning how it works daily. Our next stop in Valencia, at home, next September”.
