Villorba Corse perform well in GT Open at Budapest

Despite a 45-second handicap Montermini, who sets the fastest lap, and Schirò, who fights back, clinch the Super GT podium (fifth overall) on Ferrari 458 in the first race of the fourth round of the season

Italian team led by Raimondo Amadio clinched some valuable points for the standings after a thrilling race-1 of the fourth round of the season underway in Budapest.

At the Hungaroring Andrea Montermini and Niccolò Schirò have put on a great show with their Ferrari 458. Despite a mandatory 45-second handicap to be paid during the driver change, and after setting the fastest lap and some stunning overtaking, the Villorba pair made a great comeback up to third place in the Super GT class (a crucial podium for the championship) and to fifth overall.

After such a good result, the Hungarian race weekend will end on Sunday, when Montermini / Schirò will start race-2 from the third row on the grid. The 60-minute race will start at 12:55 and will be broadcasted live on www.gtopen.net (clicking on WEB TV) and on TV channels Motors TV (Europe, live), RaiSport2 (Italy, deferred at 21:40), Canal+ (Spain, live), Teledeporte RTVE (Spain, deferred at 21:05), Sport TV (Portugal, deferred at 21:00 on TV3), DigiSport (Czech Republic and Slovakia, live on DigiSport1 and deferred at 19:00 on DigiSport2) and at to be confirmed times on BT Sport2 (UK), Poverkhnost Sport TV1 (Russia), Sport TV (Turkey) and DigiSport (Hungary and Romania.

The second commitment of the weekend for Villorba Corse was the third round of the Blancpain Sprint Series  at Zandvoort.

On the Dutch track Alessandro Balzan (first time out with the Italian team) and Filip Salaquarda showed a very good pace in the morning during the qualifying session (third row clinched by Balzan) and again in the qualifying race, both in dry and wet conditions when the rain started to fall down.

Unfortunately, the Villorba crew went off track with only 16 minutes to go while Salaquarda was fighting for fourth place overall and, as a result, the team can not take part in the main race on Sunday.
