After a day’s break, and following on from Sunday’s Santander British Grand Prix, the McLaren team resumed running at Silverstone this morning, completing the first of a two-day test on the grand prix circuit.

It is the third in-season test of the year, following sessions in Bahrain and Barcelona, and an end-of-season event in Abu Dhabi.

Today’s running was conducted by the team’s official reserve driver, Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne.

The team spent the morning focusing on aerodynamic correlation and brake development, logging 29 laps before the lunchbreak. The afternoon was spent conducting set-up changes and gathering tyre data – although progress was affected by a number of red-flag stoppages.

Speaking at the end of the day, Stoffel said:

“It was great to be back in the car today. We managed to get a useful number of laps completed. We spent the morning doing a lot of aero work and some development runs; in the afternoon, we followed it up with some work to further understand tyre degradation. We got some good running completed.

“Hopefully, I’ve been able to provide the engineers with some valuable data, which will be useful for future development. We’ll see what the engineers get out of it, but hopefully I did a good job today to improve the car.”

What’s next Kevin Magnussen takes over driving duties for the final day of the test.
