Honda is set to be one of the stars of the show at CarFest 2014, with a range of fun activities guaranteed to fascinate and thrill festival-goers young and old alike. The brainchild of broadcasting legend Chris Evans, CarFest raises vital funds for BBC Children In Need via a family-oriented blend of fast and exotic cars, celebrity cameos and live music from some of the hottest acts around. This year, Honda will feature right at the heart of the high-octane action at both CarFest North at Oulton Park in Cheshire (1-3 August) and CarFest South at former Formula One World Champion Jody Scheckter’s Laverstoke Park Farm in Hampshire (22-24 August).Based around the central hub of a vast air structure – meticulously designed to replicate an engine – Honda’s CarFest presence will include a product experience area, car and motorbike displays and an innovative and interactive ‘Power of Lean’ demonstration to simulate SBK-style knee-down riding. One of the key factors behind CarFest’s enduring popularity, of course, is its family-friendly nature, and Honda has spared no effort when it comes to keeping the kids entertained – with a fun, educational twist. My First Licence is a mini-motorbike taster session aimed at 5-to-11-year-old non-riders, introducing them to the exciting world of motorcycling.Children receive guidance and tuition from trained instructors on how to master two-wheeled riding on a restricted 50cc Honda CRF50 bike in a controlled environment around a specially-designed course, kitted out in all appropriate clothing and safety gear. Each aspiring young motorcyclist is also presented with a mock licence at the end of the activity, printed on-site.For older teens – and grown-ups who remain teenagers at heart – there will be an ATV Experience on Honda’s TRX420, where instructors will reveal the inside line on throttle control, slaloming, overcoming obstacles and balance.A brace of sit-on Lawn Tractors, finally, will offer visitors the opportunity to race head-to-head around a timed course through a garden where lane control and garbage-grabbing are of primary concern – a sure-fire hit that mirrors the very ethos of a summer festival which places the emphasis firmly on fun.Honda will also be bringing some of its most iconic vehicles to the 2014 CarFest party, details of which will be revealed at a later stage.
