Rees set for second half challenge in Carrera Cup GB‏

Paul Rees says he will be pushing for race wins over the second half of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season as he bids to close the points’ gap to championship leaders Josh Webster and Michael Meadows.Rees (In2 Racing) currently lies third in the overall title race after nine of the season’s 19 races and he wants to fight for race wins when the season resumes at Snetterton (2/3 August) after a five-week mid-season break. The former single-seater racer joined the Carrera Cup at the start of the season and has shown ever-improving pace, notably over the last two race weekends at Le Mans and Croft, and says he is now ready to challenge for race wins. He was named as ‘driver of the weekend’ at Croft.“It is coming together and the pace is improving with every race. I just don’t want to let the points’ deficit to Michael and Josh to get away too much,” said the Oxford-based racer. “I had a pole at Croft, which was great, and I overtook Victor Jimenez for third in the championship despite a wrong tyre choice for the second race.“Over the second half of the season I have to 100% push for wins. I’ve had enough seconds and thirds and I want that top step of the podium now.“I’ve got a holiday in the Bahamas during the summer break, which I’m really looking forward to, and then it’s straight back to Snetterton with some simulator work in between.”Current overall drivers’ points: 1 Josh Webster 167; 2 Michael Meadows 157; 3 Paul Rees 125; 4 Victor Jimenez 113; etc.
