Oscar Nogues wins Eurocup Clio at the Nurburgring

Starting fourth on the grid Oscar Nogues (Rangoni Corse) took the win on Sunday at the Nürburgring. The Catalan driver claimed his third victory of the season ahead of team mate Alex Morgan (Rangoni Corse) and Eric Trémoulet (Vic’Team). He also reinforces his position as leader in the general classification with a 27-point lead from Massimiliano Pedalà (Composit Motorsport), who finished fifth.

Sunday morning, Josh Files (Team Pyro) took the pole position on his final effort, his second of the season ahead of Eric Trémoulet, Alex Morgan, Oscar Nogues and Mikel Azcona (PCRSport).

In the very first metres, Eric Trémoulet got the better of Josh Files to move into the lead. Then, the Englishman went off circuit, losing several positions. Behind Eric Trémoulet, was the ever present Alex Morgan. Oscar Nogues and Mikel Azcona stayed close to the leaders when the safety car was called into service after Ronnie Marchetti (Composit Motorsport) went off.

When the race resumed, Oscar Nogues passed Alex Morgan for second place before moving into the lead when he surprised Eric Trémoulet on the next lap. Mikel Azcona and Alex Morgan imitated the Catalan driver a few corners later. Oscar Nogues then took advantage of the battles between his pursuers to extend his lead.

At the end of lap 12, Oscar Nogues won for third time this season. His team mate Alex Morgan made it a one-two finish for Rangoni Corse. Eric Trémoulet won his battle against Mikel Azcona to finish in third position. Massimiliano Pedalà finished fifth, making the most of the Josh Files’ flip on the last lap. Ivan Pulicć (Lema Racing Team), Rafael Villanueva (SMC Junior Motorsport), Nikolay Gryazin (Composit Motorsport), Facundo Della Motta (Pujolaracing) and Salvatore Arcarese (Rangoni Corse) completed the top ten.

Quotes

Oscar Nogues: “Yesterday, we made the wrong tyre choice. This morning, it was much better with fourth place on the grid. Eric and Alex pushed very hard, but I picked up the pace after the safety car period to take the lead and go on for the win.”

Alex Morgan: “We knew we had the pace in dry conditions, even though we missed out on scoring a lot of points yesterday due to a bad choice. Today, we made the right decisions. After the safety car, I struggled a little, but I managed to finish second.”

Eric Trémoulet: “It was a good race even though I hoped to be faster than I was. It was a real battle before the safety car came out, then Alex and Oscar proved to be faster. All the way until the final, I tried to hold on to third place against Mickel Azcone. It was great and fair battle!”
