FIA World Rallycross Championship Marklund secures podium position in Canada

The trip overseas has paid off for Anton Marklund and the Marklund Motorsport team: the Swede clinched second place in the final race of the seventh event in the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Trois-Rivières, Canada, and has therefore consolidated his fifth place overall. His teammate Toomas Heikkinen (FIN) likewise made it into the final in Canada. The 23-year-old, who drives a Volkswagen Polo RX Supercar, finished in fifth place, which moves him up to second place in the championship. The next World Rallycross Championship event will be held in Lohéac, France, on 6 and 7 September.

Lahti Historic RallyLatvala wins at the wheel of an Audi Quattro

Two wins on home soil within seven days. Volkswagen rally driver Jari-Matti Latvala (FIN) has won the Lahti Historic Rally, an event for historic rally cars, at the wheel of an Audi Quattro Gp4 car. The Finn, who had already won his WRC home event, the Rally Finland, last week, repeated last year’s win at the historic rally event held in the city of Lahti, leading a starting field of 47 drivers. Latvala, who has a strong passion for historic rally sport, will be back in action at the wheel of the Volkswagen Polo R WRC car in fewer than two weeks when Rally Germany will be held around the city of Trier (21 to 24 August).

ADAC GT MastersVolkswagen junior driver van der Linde cedes overall lead

Kelvin van der Linde (ZA) was pushed out of the lead in the ADAC GT Masters on the fifth weekend of racing, on the Slovakiaring (SK). The Volkswagen junior driver, who won the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup in 2013, came sixth in the first race on Saturday together with his teammate René Rast in the Audi R8 LMS ultra. The 18-year-old then finished in tenth place in the second race on Sunday, which was an eventful affair with a lot of overtaking. The new duo at the top of the leader board are Claudia Hürtgen/Dominik Baumann. The next two ADAC GT Masters races will be held on the Nürburgring from 29 to 31 August.

ADAC Formula MastersThree different winners on the Slovakiaring

The fifth event in the ADAC Formula Masters ‘powered by Volkswagen’ on the Slovakiaring (SK) was a diverse affair, producing a different winner in each of the three races. 19-year-old Danish driver Mikkel Jensen was nonetheless the weekend’s biggest winner, as he has now extended his overall lead. Jensen won the first race on Saturday and came second in the second race. He was therefore unperturbed by his failure to finish the third race on Sunday, which was won by Tim Zimmermann (D) ahead of Joel Eriksson (S) and Dennis Marschall (D). The youngsters in the ADAC Formula Masters are gearing up to the highlight of the season in just under two weeks’ time from 29 to 31 August, when the racing series for up-and-coming drivers will make a guest appearance on the legendary Nürburgring.

Volkswagen Polo Cup RussiaMelnikov clinches first victory in Vyborg

Vladimir Melnikov (RUS) is the winner of the seventh event in the current season of the Volkswagen Polo Cup Russia, the demanding Rally Vyborg not far from the Russian city of Saint Petersburg. Together with his co-driver, fellow Russian Sergey Skripka, he succeeded in pipping Mikhail Silantyev and Arkady Bogomolov (both RUS) to the post at the end of six special stages over a total distance of 86 kilometres. This marks the duo’s first win in the newly created Volkswagen rally cup. The next stop for the Volkswagen Polo Cup Russia is Rally Pskov on 5 and 6 September.

Volkswagen Castrol Cup PolandKupčikas leaves rivals in the dust in Most

There was no stopping Robertas Kupčikas on the fourth weekend of racing in the Volkswagen Castrol Cup Poland, held in the Czech city of Most. The Lithuanian achieved no less than two start-to-finish victories on the high-speed circuit, thereby underscoring his ambitions to win the Polish one-make racing series featuring 260 hp Volkswagen Golf models. Jeffrey Kruger (ZA), who is currently ranked second overall, came second in the first race and third in the second race. The former ski jumping world champion Sven Hannawald (D), who has previously taken part in the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup, competed as a guest entrant in Most and performed impressively to finish in tenth and 15th place in the two races. The next two races for the entrants in the Volkswagen Castrol Cup Poland are scheduled for 22 to 24 August on the Slovakiaring.
