Haulier Fulk To Make Car Racing Debut In Clio Cup Series Finale

Businessman Charlie Fulk will make his car racing debut in the final two rounds of the Michelin Clio Cup Race Series season at Croft in North Yorkshire this weekend, 20th/21st September, two decades since he last competed in karting.

Joining title-contending squad Team Pyro for rounds 11 and 12 of the championship, the 46-year-old from Woking is relishing the prospect of racing a third generation 2.0-litre Renault Clio for the first time having long held the desire to make his bow in car racing.

Fulk, who is the Director of haulage business Goldstar Heathrow, first tested a Clio Cup car with Pyro towards the end of last year and although unable to commit to a full season in the Michelin Clio Cup Race Series, the Croft weekend fitted in with his busy schedule.

“I’m a complete novice so I’m not expecting anything”, said Fulk, “The aim is to enjoy the weekend, be safe and not cause any aggravation for any of the others – especially those at the front fighting for the championship. I’m just there to learn, Friday will be my first time on track with other Clios in testing so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Aside from his business interests, the married father of two also spends much of his time supporting the burgeoning karting career of his son Zak who is currently enjoying a strong first season in Junior Rotax in Europe after a solid formative career in Cadets and Mini Max.

“I’ve been involved in karting for years and I know Mark [Hunt] from that”, added Fulk, “We went down to Brands Hatch at the end of last season for a bit of a boys’ day out and I tested the Clio there. Mark said I ought to have a go but this weekend at Croft was the only one I could do.

“My wife and daughter aren’t big fans of motorsport so I’ll be heading up there on my own, just me and the camper! I’ve always wanted to do this, but I’ve never been in a time position or financial position to consider it until now. It was the logical thing to do the races with Mark, he runs a great team and I trust him which is so important.”

Fulk’s team-mate David Dickenson (Wicklow, Ireland) goes into this weekend’s action at Croft battling it out for the coveted Michelin Clio Cup Race Series title with Total Control Racing’s current championship leader Mike Robinson (Surbiton).

Pyro driver Dickenson is currently 52 points adrift of Robinson with a maximum of 68 available to score across rounds 11 and 12. Pyro’s four car line-up for the event is completed by race winner Brett Smith (Wellingborough) and Sport Class pace-setter Ollie Pidgley (Downton).

Michelin Clio Cup Race Series qualifying will take place at 13.20 on Saturday, 20th September, with rounds 11 and 12 following on Sunday, 21st September, at 12.40 and 17.10 respectively.

Along with headline sponsors Michelin and Protyre, the Clio Cup Series is additionally supported by Ferodo and Safety Devices.
