Title Edging Closer For Robertson As GT4 SuperCup Heads To Silverstone

Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup championship leader Charlie Robertson is hoping to edge another step closer to his second car racing title in three years when the penultimate race meeting of the 2014 season takes place at Silverstone National Circuit next weekend, 27th/28th September.

With seven race wins and a total of 15 podium finishes so far in his maiden season in the category, it’s been a sensational year for the Whyteleafe driver. Going into rounds 23 and 24, Charlie takes a substantial 48 point advantage and knows the championship crown is getting nearer – but he’s also well aware it only takes one problematic race to have a major impact on his title bid.

“I’m really looking forward to Silverstone and we’re in a great position in the championship, but we’re not complacent at all and know we need to keep working really hard as it doesn’t take much for a big points lead to disappear”, said the 17-year-old.

“It’s been a fantastic season for us so far, HHC Motorsport has done an incredible job with the car and we’ve been competitive at every track. If next weekend goes to plan, hopefully we can be in an even stronger position going into the final rounds at Brands Hatch next month. Whatever happens, we’ll be trying as hard as ever to win at Silverstone and be as consistent as we can.”

Having chalked-up seven podium finishes from the last eight races, including three race victories, Charlie has enjoyed a particularly strong run since the second half of the season began at Snetterton in early August.

After moving back into the lead of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup at Croft in June just prior to the long summer break, having previously headed the standings following the second race meeting of the year at Donington Park, the Scottish teenager has undoubtedly been the stand-out driver.

Including the Silverstone double-header just over a week from now, there are only five races left in the 2014 championship but that also means there are still more than 180 points available to any one driver. With such a significant number of points still up for grabs, Investigo and Blackstar-supported Charlie knows the importance of continuing his terrific form when he arrives at Silverstone.

“I’m sure we’ll be quick next weekend and in the battle for pole position in qualifying”, he added, “If we can start on the front row, that will be a lot of the hard work done but the competition this year at the front in the GT4 SuperCup is very tough and you can’t take anything for granted. The aim is to at least maintain the sort of lead we have now – if we can do that then I’ll be very happy.”

After pre-event testing at Silverstone next Friday, 26th September, Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup qualifying will take place at 14.15 on Saturday, 27th September. Both races will be contested on Sunday, 28th September, with round 23 beginning at 09.45 and round 24 following at 15.15 – the second race will be screened live on ITV4 and ITV4 HD with live streaming at www.itv.com/btcc
