POOLE and King’s Lynn make a third attempt to resolve their Elite League play-off semi-final at Wimborne Road on Wednesday. The first leg was raced at the end of September with the Pirates taking a one-point win from their away match at the Norfolk Arena, but the weather has intervened in the planned stagings of the return fixture so far, with Coventry awaiting the winners in the Final.Poole promoter Matt Ford said: “We have had an awful October and it seems the weather gods are throwing everything they can at us. We are now facing a very busy week with the second leg this week and then almost straight into the Final for which ever side goes through.“Should that be us, as I sincerely hope it will be but can take nothing for granted, then it is even busier as on Saturday we are riding in the rescheduled World Speedway League in Zielona Gora, only for that to be followed by the second leg of the Final. It is clear though that we will need some break in the weather and there is nothing we can do about controlling that.”(SPEEDWAY 2)
WOLVERHAMPTON owner Chris Van Straaten has revealed how weeks of hard work have been washed away with the postponement of the club’s major individual meeting.Van Straaten admits the weather is still his biggest source of frustration in speedway after pulling the plug on the Banks’s Olympique on Tuesday – the second year in succession that it has been called off.He said: “We ordered 20-tonnes of dry limestone to be delivered to the track at 8am. But we needed some dry weather in order to put a new track in effectively, so reluctantly we made an early decision to cancel.“It’s a major disappointment for the sponsors, the restaurant was fully booked for this meeting, the riders, fans and track staff, I feel for them all. This has taken weeks of hard work. We had every intention to make it happen if at all possible, but we had to admit defeat and in all my years involved in this sport the weather remains the biggest cause of frustration.”
