Coates Hire Racing seeking Gold Coast glory

Hot on the heels of a magnificent third place at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, Coates Hire Racing’s Nick Percat and international sports car star Oliver Gavin are teaming up for the final 2014 enduro event for V8 Supercars this weekend, the Castrol Edge Gold Coast 600.

Percat and Gavin were among the very few not to get caught up in the many incidents in what was one of the most intriguing and chaotic Bathurst races ever.

When race leader Jamie Whincup’s Commodore spluttered out of fuel within sight of the flag, Percat pounced and claimed third spot, elevating himself and Gavin onto the Bathurst podium and sixth overall in the PIRTEK Enduro Cup.

This weekend’s concrete-lined Gold Coast street circuit is a total contrast to the wide open spaces of Bathurst and with Percat sitting just 48 points outside the championship top ten, there’s certainly a spring in everyone’s step at HHA Racing.

Last year Percat, who was competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup, won the final round of that championship.

Gavin is no stranger to the Gold Coast layout either, with a sixth and fourth place finishes under his belt, from 2011 when he partnered Greg Murphy.

Nick Percat: “I’m super excited to be back on the Gold Coast for the 600. I had great success here last year in the Porsche with a pole and two wins.

"I love the atmosphere on the streets of Surfers Paradise and throwing the cars over the kerbs and up next to the concrete walls is always a challenge.

"Ollie has raced here before so I'm hoping for another strong showing with Bathurst proving that he is highly skilled and can adapt to our cars well".
