Win and GT Open leadership for Montermini, Schiro in Barcelona

#1 Villorba Corse Ferrari 458 clinches race-1 and now tops the standings by one point. Showdown on Sunday (November 2) from 13.55

Scuderia Villorba Corse won race-1 in the final round of the International GT Open at Barcelona bringing its Ferrari 458 at the top of the championship standings again. In Spain reigning champion Andrea Montermini and his teammate Niccolò Schirò made a great comeback behind the wheel of the supercar from Maranello, perfectly managed by the Italian squad led by Raimondo Amadio. Thanks to a very aggressive start from the third row, in the very first lap of the race Montermini reached the 3rd place, a position strategically held until the mandatory pit-stop for driver change. Schirò completed the job recovering up to 1st place with a stunning overtaking on the leader Corvette. With only one race to go Montermini / Schirò are now leading the overall standings by a single point. On Sunday, November 2 the 60-minute race-2 will start at 13:55 and will be broadcasted live on www.gtopen.net (clicking on WEB TV) and on TV channels Motors TV (Europe), BT Sport2 (UK, at 12:55 on ESPN2), RaiSport2 (Italy), Canal+ (Spain) and DigiSport1 (Czech Republic and Slovakia), deferred on Sport TV (Portugal, at 14:50 on Sport5) and at to be confirmed times on Teledeporte RTVE (Spain), DigiSport (Hungary and Romania), Poverkhnost Sport TV1 (Russia) and Sport TV (Turkey).

“It was a wonderful race - says Montermini -; but the crucial work starts right now. We have been perfect in preparing our Ferrari since Thursday's private tests and the 458 has been ultra-competitive. Now we lead the standings by one point, it is nothing and that is why everything will be decided on the very last race.”

“I knew I had to be in front of the other Ferrari in my out-lap - says Schirò -; I did it. Then it was not easy, but we managed to get past the Corvette and then it was only a matter of tyre, avoiding mistakes.”
