Villorba Corse fights in the rain with Balzan, Benucci at Spa

Rainy qualifying and race-1 between dry and wet conditions and a tyre bursting for the top-5 clinched by the #3 Ferrari 458 on the first day of the fifth GT Open round. Sunday's race-2 to be held at 14h00

It was a Saturday between dry and wet conditions for Villorba Corse in the fifth round of the International GT Open underway on the Belgian circuit of Spa. In this “rainy roulette” all-Italian team led by Raimondo Amadio, despite some unfortunate circumstances, fights and keeps a top-five pace with Alessandro Balzan and then Nicola Benucci at the wheel of their Ferrari 458 GT3. Started from the third row after a rainy qualifying, in race-1 Balzan fights back up to third overall place but then had to suffer his rivals' comeback and the burst of his car's rear-left tyre, which forced the Venetian driver to do an early pit-stop. Balzan's teammate Benucci got back on track after the mandatory driver-change but soon the rain starts to fall on track forcing the Italian driver from Modena to a further stop to go for rain tyres. In that moment the safety car is deployed and, after the subsequent re-start, Benucci has managed to keep a good pace despite the difficult track conditions, finishing in fifth position a really crazy race.

Fifth GT Open round at Spa will end on Sunday with race-2 which will start at 13h55. The race will be broadcasted by www.gtopen.net (clicking on the Web TV section) and several TV channels: Motors TV (Europe, deferred at 19h15 CET), BT Sport Europe (UK, live at 12h45), Fox Sports (Italy, live at 13h55), Canal+ and Teledeporte RTVE (Spain, live at 13h55), Sport TV (Portugal, deferred at 21h40), Poverkhnost Sport TV 1 (Russia, live at 14h55) and Digi Sport (Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Czech Republic, live at 13h55).
