Andrew “Fishtail” Fisher will celebrate his 200th race start when he hits the track for Race 1 at Round 5 of the 2015 East Coast Bullbars Australian V8 Ute Racing Series at Sandown Raceway, Saturday, 11th September.
Fisher has been in the Series since 2007, showing great talent and taking out the Rookie title the same year, he has raced at every single round since he began his V8 Ute Career and he is looking forward to reaching this milestone.
“We never thought starting way back in 2007 that we would reach such a great milestone and still be smiling. We always look forward to our Ute weekend but this one will be just a little bit more special,” said Fisher.
Although Fisher has won many races (five), set lap records (five), stood on podium 25 times, he is yet to cement the elusive Round win and would love nothing more than to walk away with the title this weekend.
“We have achieved a lot over the past 9 years however a Round win is the one thing that we have missed out on, we have the most wins and podiums without a round win in the history of Ute racing which is disappointing so here’s hoping this weekend could be it, what a great way to celebrate such a milestone,” said Fisher.
Fisher began motor racing Daewoos, MGs and Lotus, boasting 3rd in the national series and when the Lotus Series rolled over in 2006, he looked for the best place to take the Jesus brand.
“We wanted to challenge people’s paradigms by putting the name of Jesus on the car so we looked at what would be the most diametrically opposed series to what someone would think a Christian would participate in....and it had to be the V8 Utes, it was simply the most competitive, aggressive, argy -bargy, paint swapping series going around,” explained Fisher of his entrance into the category.
The Illawarra local is not only successful on the track (having raced in the Bathurst 1000 in 2009 alongside David Sieders, raced in the MINI Challenge Series in 2009/ 2010, Dunlop Development Series in 2008 and currently races in both the Utes Series and the Touring Car Masters) he is also very proactive off the track taking out the 2013 Piston Cup award, equivalent to the Brownlow medal. Fisher talks to over 30,000 students every year through his life choices program.
