Bundaberg race driver Mason Barbera was involved in an incident in Race 1 of the East Coast Bullbars Australian V8 Ute Racing Series at Sandown Raceway, Melbourne Victoria today (Saturday, 12th September).
Barbera and Melbourne driver Leigh Nicolaou touched wheels at over 200 kph at the end of the back straight on Lap 6 of the race, with Barbera’s Ford slamming heavily into the wall as a result.
The 17 year old lost consciousness momentarily after the incident, and has been transferred to the Alfred Hospital for further observation and treatment for suspected fractured ribs.
Medical Teams responded quickly and race officials deemed it a racing incident with no further action to be taken.
