Ellinas aiming for third Formula Renault 3.5 win at Le Mans‏

Following Strakka Racing’s maiden 1-2 finish at the World Series by Renault’s Nürburgring meeting, driver Tio Ellinas is confident of further success when the series travels to La Sarthe for the penultimate round of the FR 3.5 season.

With just four races left in the 2015 Formula Renault 3.5 season, Silverstone-based team Strakka Racing is looking to continue its winning form. After taking a home victory in Race 1 at Silverstone and then a dramatic 1-2 in tricky, changeable conditions in Race 2 at the Nürburgring, the team’s confidence is the highest it’s been all season.

“Everyone has a spring in their step,” says Ellinas. “After winning a race at the last two meetings, I just want to win more. Both Gustav (Malja) and I are extremely motivated to reward the Strakka team with more victories.

“The Bugatti Circuit at Le Mans looks to be surprisingly technical for such a short circuit,” he adds. “I am yet to race on it, but the simulator work I’ve done should help me ease into it during practice. Luckily everyone is in the same boat, having not featured on the 3.5 calendar for some years.”

After travelling to Magny Cours and Paul Ricard for the French rounds of World Series by Renault in recent seasons, the Bugatti Circuit at Le Mans features on the calendar for the first time since 2009.

With the public road sections of the full Circuit de la Sarthe reserved for selected events such as the Le Mans 24 Hours, the Bugatti layout is a 4.2km-long permanent race track that runs behind the pit complex. Host to the annual French Moto GP round, it was also used as the venue for the French Grand Prix in 1967.

The on-track action at Le Mans runs from the 25th to 27th of September. Both Formula Renault 3.5 races start at 13:30 local time, with Race 1 on Saturday and Race 2 on Sunday.
