It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish - and Tai Woffinden finished his night stood on top of the box after winning the 2015 Stockholm Speedway Grand Prix.
There is just no stopping the British champ right now and he recovered from a dodgy start to charge to his second GP win of the season and took another giant leap towards winning the world championship for the second time.
How do you stop a man who refuses to be beaten? That’s the question for the 15 other riders in the paddock right now, especially his title rival Greg Hancock. GH has stayed with Tai step-by-step in the last three rounds but Tai refuses to let Greg claw any points back at the top of the standings.
Hancock produced another awesome performance in his adopted country to come home in second, his third top-two finish in a row, but he only matched Woffinden’s 16 points haul and it’s still Tai in control.
Speaking after one of his toughest victories, Woffy told us just how stoked he was to come through a challenging night; “After my first race I thought it was going to be one of those seven-point GP’s!
“The tough ones are where the championships are won and I honestly thought today was going to be a tough one for me. We knuckled down, made some changes to the set-up and got it done. I wasn’t riding my best, sometimes I just want to win so bad that I make a few mistakes but the boys told me what to do and I went and did it.”
“This year’s gone really good, I’ve been consistent but I’m putting the work in. The backing I’ve got is unreal, it’s mega. I got a bit emotional on the bike earlier, I wish my dad was here to see it. It’s mine to lose now but anything can happen so I’m going to Torun fully focused on the job.”
There are only two rounds to go and the next event is only a week away, and it’s going to be a huge night. 20,000 fans will pack into the Torun MotoArena to watch the world’s best 16 riders go bar-to-bar, wheel-to-wheel, and it’s going to be cut-throat to the extreme.
Woffinden is on the verge of another title but Hancock won’t give up his crown without one helluva fight - and we’ll be all over it right here on MonsterEnergy.com.
