MRS keeps second place in Carrera Cup Germany Drivers Championship

Engelhart remains Second in Championship rankings following two fourth places Goddard has lucky escape following tyre puncture in Race #2

Molitor Racing Systems made no mistakes at the second-to-last race weekend for the German Porsche Carrera Cup, taking place at Nürburgring this weekend. Two four places secured Runner-up position for Christian Engelhart in the championship and the MRS-Porsche Pilot can now hope for the Vice-Championship-Crown.

Christian Engelhart went into the weekend with full speed, setting the fastest time in Free Practice on Friday. But the good start could not be transferred into the all-important qualifying on Saturday: The 28-year-old had to settle for fifth place for the two races.

The first race of the weekend took place on Saturday afternoon at the usual time, despite fog delaying the entire schedule the very same morning. Engelhart charged past the Spaniard Riberas at the start into the 14th of 17th championship rounds and kept fourth place until the chequered flag. “This was a really good race and it was fun to drive”, said Engelhart. “It is a shame, that we could not get a better position in qualifying, because the car felt great and was super quick. I could have gone faster, but it is tricky to overtake around the 3.6 km-long track at Nürburgring.”

Engelhart started from P5 into Sunday´s race. Following a great start, the Safety Car was send on track after one lap only, after Engelhart´s team-mate had an accident. Goddard had a slight collision with his team-mate Erhart going into the first corner, resulting in a tyre puncture when he was on full speed approaching the NGK-Chicane. The Australian had a lucky escape and was not hit by any other cars whilst he was spinning out of control. Only Arnold was involved in the accident and was forced to retire.

Erhart had another good fight with Kentenich, but damaged his front bodywork. Engelhart felt the pressure of Dane Nicki Thiim and found himself in the same scenario as in Oschersleben. On lap 17, Thiim overtook Engelhart, but a mistake a few minutes later allowed Engelhart to take back fourth place.

“From a championship point of view, we did everything right this weekend, because I finished both races ahead of Jeffrey Schmidt”, said Engelhart. “There are two more races to come and they will take place at Hockenheim – a track, where I have been very strong in the past. I am confident that we will secure the second place in the Drivers’ Championship with a win to finish the season.”
