Polish speedway city Gorzow will continue to host the FIM Speedway World Championships for the next four seasons.
SGP and SWC rights holders BSI Speedway agreed a new deal with the Stal Gorzow club and City of Gorzow to keep the Gorzow FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland at the Edward Jancarz Stadium until 2018.
Following that, the venue will host the sport’s most prestigious team events in 2019 – the FIM Speedway World Cup Race Off and Final.
Gorzow has staged an SGP round every season since 2011 – the year the SWC Race Off and Final last took place there.
BSI Speedway managing director Torben Olsen is excited to continue bringing the sport’s biggest names to a true speedway city.
He said: “The Gorzow SGP of Poland has all the ingredients of a fantastic event. The Edward Jancarz Stadium is one of the best purpose-built speedway venues in the world. The track delivers consistently superb racing. And the city truly loves the sport of speedway, with fans everywhere you turn.
“As a city, Gorzow is growing and developing at a great pace. We notice improvements and changes every time we visit.
“The speedway club is at the very heart and soul of the city and we look forward to working with Gorzow to stage more world-class racing over the next four years.”
Mayor of Gorzow Jacek Wójcicki said: “Staging the Gorzow FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland has truly put our city on the world stage and attracted visitors from around the world.
“The passion for speedway in this city is incredible and we look forward to welcoming many more fans to Gorzow over the next four years.”
Stal Gorzow club president Ireneusz Maciej Zmora said: “This year’s Gorzow SGP of Poland attracted a fantastic crowd, so we’re very happy to see the sport’s top stars back at the Edward Jancarz Stadium for the next four seasons.
“With our very own Bartosz Zmarzlik winning the GP Challenge to earn his place in the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series for 2016, Stal Gorzow fans will take a very special interest in next year’s championship.
“We look forward to more great racing in the coming seasons and look forward to hosting fans from throughout Poland and all over the world.”
