The month-long break for the GP2 and GP3 Series is finally over, and the whole Trident team is looking forward to their upcoming Russian weekend at Sochi. The two championship will return to the temporary venue, built in the area used for the past winter Olympics, after last year’s debut. As Russia decided to start a Motorsport tradition, the addition of Formula 1, GP2 and GP3 series casted a successful first stone for the country in racing.
The trip to Russia will mark a key part of the season for the team. Luca Ghiotto will line-up at Sochi as the championship leader with 170 points (14 more than Esteban Ocon) but he will face a brand-new venue for him and will work hard with Trident’s technical staff to find new solutions for qualifying. It won’t be easy, but Trident already show the abilities needed to accomplish the feature. The seventh round of the series is set to be a key one on a track with more hidden elements than the well-known Bahrain and Abu Dhabi Ones, where the championship will round out the season in November. The Sochi weekend will mark a new addition for Trident as regulars Ghiotto and Artur Janosz will be joined by Italian Michele Beretta. The 20-year-old from Milan, who lined-up so far in the FIA F.3 European Championship, will have his first taste of a GP3 Series car. For him it will be like the first day of school. The GP2 Series line-up will be unchanged compared to Monza, with Raffaele Marciello partnered by Johnny Cecotto. As well as the team, they are eager to be back in the hunt in order to confirm the good progress showed at Monza, a round that finally featured a positive step. The goal is to enjoy a successful final part of the season, and the Sochi weekend will be a good opportunity to get a head start.
