Audi Sport TT Cup

HOCKENHEIM FINALE HOLDING LOTS OF PROMISE FOR AUDI RACER CAYGILLJosh Caygill’s most successful car racing campaign to date reaches its conclusion little more than a week from now when Hockenheim in Germany hosts the final two races of the inaugural Audi Sport TT Cup season on 17th/18th October.

Proudly flying the flag for the UK this year in the European category, the 26-year-old is the sole British driver on the championship’s grid, Josh goes into rounds 11 and 12 bidding to end the year in the top five of the driver standings and determined to climb back onto the TT Cup podium.

Progressing well during the first half of the campaign, only his third season of car racing at any level, the Netherton-based driver has gone on to make serious strides in recent events with the highlight up to now a fantastic maiden podium finish at Oschersleben a month ago.

While race pace has been strong from the beginning of the campaign, in recent rounds Josh has unlocked more pace in qualifying and this has been the catalyst for some excellent results and a superb haul of points – hoisting him from 11th position in the championship at the halfway point of the season into his current placing of sixth, less than 10 points shy of the top five.

Aiming to continue his upward momentum at Hockenheim next Saturday and Sunday, where the Audi Sport TT Cup will, as always, run as a key support series to the high-profile DTM touring car championship, Josh is confident of another highly competitive front-running showing.

“It’s sad the season is almost over to be honest, it’s been a fantastic year and a real privilege to race in the debut season of the TT Cup”, he commented, “We’ve made some significant progress over the last few meetings, the podium at Oschersleben was the obvious high-point but last time out at the Nurburgring we had the pace again. I’m pretty confident we can continue that way next weekend.”

Hockenheim was also the venue for the championship curtain-raiser in early May where Josh ended the first weekend just outside the championship top 10 after a competitive start to the season. In mixed conditions, a dry opening round followed by a rain-hit second encounter, the Briton raced very well and just missed out on a top 10 result on the maiden weekend.

“Hockenheim is a great track and it’s going to be interesting to see how much we’ve progressed since the first round”, added Josh, “I’m really looking forward to being back there and I’m aiming for the top six in qualifying at least, from there a podium is definitely possible.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this season, everyone involved has been fantastic and really supportive all year – there’s a great relationship between the competitors. Audi Sport is full of great people, the TT Cup is a mega championship and I’m hoping to sign-off the season with our best weekend yet.”

Free practice and qualifying for the Audi Sport TT Cup finale is timetabled next Friday, 16th October, at Hockenheim with round 11 scheduled to take place on Saturday, 17th October, at 13.55 (UK time) and round 12 set to follow on Sunday, 18th October, at 08.50 (UK time).
