Trident GP3 Sochi weekend ends with a spectacular win

Race 1 & Race 2 The Sochi weekend ended with a spectacular win by Luca Ghiotto, who handed the Trident team another success in an unexpected outcome for Race 1 of the GP3 Series at the Russian venue. The Italian was also able to retain the championship lead. Today’s two races also provided Polish racer Artur Janosz with some well-deserved results as he ended Race 2 with a fifth place in his career best effort so far in GP3. Series rookie Michele Beretta put some valuable experience under his belt on an unknown venue and with a car he had never driven before. Despite the lack of previous running, he scored a valuable 13th place in Race 2.LUCA GHIOTTO

Once again, Aci Team Italia driver Ghiotto showcased his outstanding potential behind the wheel of the #27 car right from the start of the start of the Feature Race. After climbing up to the lead straight away, he delivered a flawless performance by staying among the fastest on-track and sailing away towards victory. In Race 2, starting from the eight spot on the grid, he quickly clinched the top-5 before being pushed off-track by another driver and eventually dropping out of the points zone. He didn’t back down though, pushing as hard as he could to nail the final point in eight, retaining the championship lead after the seventh round of the season.

ARTUR JANOSZ

Janosz also had an impressive weekend at Sochi and his balance has proved positive since qualifying, when he took the 11th place. He then continued on the same path in the two race with more improvement coming his way. After starting well in both occasions, Artur took a 10th and a 5th place. It was his best result of 2015 and the whole team is excited for the step taken. Janosz collected some very important points for the championship for both himself and the team. In addition to that, he showed he the balance of aggression and consistency needed to be considered one of the best men of the pack.

MICHELE BERETTA

Italian youngster Michele Beretta can also be satisfied with what he accomplished over the weekend. With everything being new for him in Sochi, he was able to clinch a good 12th place in qualifying, starting from the sixth row in Race 1. Beretta was able to take full advantage from the advice received by the engineers, proving extremely consistent. He faced some small hiccups due to inexperience that conditioned the outcome of the opening run, but his results proved positive anyway with the great Race 2 pace that also resulted in the 13th time overall.
