(SPEEDWAY 1 - FRIDAY PREVIEW)
SCOTTISH rivals Glasgow and Edinburgh clash in the first leg of the highly-anticipated Premier League Grand Final at Ashfield on Friday. The Monarchs topped the regular league table and booked their Final place with aggregate victory over Peterborough, whilst the Tigers have overcome Plymouth and Somerset in the play-offs to reach this stage.Glasgow star Nick Morris is competing in his fourth successive Grand Final, having won with Scunthorpe in 2012 and then had one win and one defeat with Somerset in the last two years - having previously won the title with Glasgow prior to the introduction of play-offs in 2011.Morris said: “I've had a pretty good run in the Finals - I've been in some pretty good teams, and I've won some and lost some. It'd be good to win another one this year and we'll try our best.“We'll go and do what we've been doing all year. You've got to put it all on the line - you don't hold back. We'll do what we know we can do and hopefully we'll get a bit of luck on our side too.“It would be awesome to win it. That's what we're here to do. We want to get league titles and it would be nice to stop Edinburgh.”The sides met last month in the League Cup Final with Edinburgh emerging on top - and boss John Campbell is happy with their form going into the biggest two meetings of all.Campbell said: “I think that we have always been heading for the Championship Final but the Tigers had a bit of a hiccup in mid-season that seemed to suggest that they may not make it - but they squeezed through. “I recently read a comment from Glasgow’s team manager, Stewart Dickson, that it was important to peak at the right time and I’m very pleased that we have done so.”(SPEEDWAY 2)
LAKESIDE have confirmed they will continue to compete at the Arena-Essex Raceway in the 2016 season. The Hammers’ Purfleet future had been in doubt but they were able to announce good news to their supporters at a public meeting on Thursday.Owner Stuart Douglas said: “It has been a really fraught few months where we have been beholden to the moves of the Arena owners. At one point I did really think that the last speedway race had been run, but perseverance paid off in the end thanks to a good working relationship with our landlords. I appreciate the efforts they have gone to.“I'd like to thank the fans for their patience as it has not been easy for any of us and it really has gone to the wire. There are still some details to be sorted out but we are pretty much there. “This will be the tenth season that Jon (Cook) and I will have been at the helm of the Hammers, and although we can breathe a little easier in the short-term this is just the very beginning of the battle to keep speedway in this part of Essex.”(FIXTURES)
