THE 2015 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship reached a dramatic conclusion at the weekend (October 10/11), which saw Honda Yuasa Racing’s Gordon Shedden win his second title of his BTCC career.
The Scotsman undoubtedly pulled off one of the drives of his career to finish the championship just four points ahead of Team BMR RCIB Insurance’s Jason Plato, adding his name to an elite list of drivers to have won the title more than once.
With the odds seemingly stacked against Shedden, it would have been a brave person to have backed the Honda Civic Type R driver, who needed to finish at least sixth despite starting in 19th position to claim the championship trophy.
Most drivers would have crumbled under the immense pressure but not Shedden, who went on a relentless attack picking off the competition as he moved up the grid and after a nail-biting last few laps, secured a fourth place finish.
While the celebrations are set to continue for the newly-crowned 2015 champion, Rockingham is already planning for the 2016 campaign with the Northamptonshire circuit hosting its round of the UK’s premier race series on August 27/28.
Tickets are now on sale for the tin-top series, and fans can buy an adult weekend ticket at 2015 prices when bought as part of the early bird promotion. The two-day pass costs a budget-busting £35 if purchased before midnight on December 31.
This includes two free practice and one qualifying session plus three entertaining BTCC races in addition to all the drama and excitement from up to five championships which make up the support series.
