Having sewn-up the Kenyan
Nnational Rally Championship last month, alongside the FIA African Rally Championship, Team Kibos driver Jassi Chatthe will be out to show what he is capable of next weekend, as he tackles the finale of the KnRC at the wheel of his MML Sports-built and run Mitsubishi Lancer EvolutionX R4 rally car.
For the last few rallies, the team has adopted a conservative strategy to ensure that it maximised its chances of winning both the KnRC and the ARC. Chatthe showed throughout both seasons that he had the pace to run consistently at the front of the pack and the MMLS-built Team Kibos Lancers had the speed, strength and reliability to succeed in some very difficult conditions.
However, with both titles now effectively secured, Chatthe will be well and truly 'off the lead' next weekend, on the KnRC finale, the Guru Nanak Rally based in Nairobi. He will be keen to show what is possible having spent the last few rallies driving for the finish.
MML Sports will actually be running two cars on the event, with the second car being driven by Jassi's 18 year-old cousin, Dilraj Chatthe, son of Bhire Chatthe. This will be his first event in an R4 version of the Mitsubishi Lancer EvolutionX and Team Kibos will be keen to see how he performs on the rally.
Commenting, MML Sports Managing Director John Easton, said; "I am really looking forward to seeing what Jassi is capable of, now that the pressure of trying to win the KnRC is off. We saw him set some excellent stage times at the start of the last round, with a couple of stage wins, before we reined him back in to make sure we wrapped-up the title.
"I fully expect him to do the same on the Guru Nanak Rally and demonstrate what we have known for a long time - he is a driver who has the speed to succeed as well as the brains to know when to go fast and when to drive for a result.
"It will also be interesting to see how Dilraj goes on his first event at the wheel of the R4 car - there are no expectations, so he can drive his own event, enjoy himself and see how he settles in.
"I hope that this will be a fitting end to what can only be described as a perfect season for Team Kibos and Jassi, taking both titles in the same year and becoming the first ever driver to do so."
The one-day event runs on Saturday 24 October and begins in Nairobi before heading to Konza and Machakos for the competitive stages
