KYLE Hughes scored a 15-point maximum as Rye House wrapped up their City Gearboxes National League campaign with a 47-43 win at Stoke. The Potters held an eight-point lead after Heat 10 but the Raiders clawed their way back, assisted by a stroke of fortune in Heat 13 when race leader Lee Payne fell.Hughes and guest Ben Morley took full advantage, and the same pairing collected maximum points in Heat 15 against Payne and Danny Phillips to clinch the win.Rye House boss John Sampford said: “Yes, we had a moment of luck in Heat 13, but it is fair to say that at the very least we would have taken a draw away from today.“Our heat leaders gave us a real rock of stability: Kyle was superb, while Ben dropped his only point in Heat 1 and Luke (Priest) weighed in with two wins and a paid victory. The rest of the side did their bit too by chipping in with points to ensure a great end to the season.”Stoke manager Malcolm Vasey said: “We are obviously very disappointed to lose especially when we were eight points up after ten races - but we seemed to run out of steam and Rye House came on very strong at the end of the meeting to snatch victory from us.”

BUXTON are targeting a top-six finish in the National League ahead of their final match of the season against King’s Lynn on Sunday. The Hitmen will move above their opponents and Mildenhall with a win at the Hi-Edge Raceway, and hand a debut to 16-year-old Lewis Millar at reserve.Buxton boss Jason Pipe said: “I'm sure all the lads will be up for the win because they all know that would lift us in to sixth place in the league table, which is where we hope to finish subject to other results.“I said before the season started that I wanted us to finish in fifth place. But I'd still be very happy with that sixth place finish. Personally I feel we have had a good season here and bar one meeting, we have shown that we were no push-overs on the road either.”A busy day for King’s Lynn sees them then travel to Stoke in the evening - with the Potters still at the foot of the table, two points behind Kent, after losing at home to Rye House on Saturday.Stoke boss Malcolm Vasey said: “We now have to dust ourselves down and look to gain a victory over King’s Lynn in what is a must-win meeting for us if we are to move ourselves off the bottom of the table.”
