MRS takes Carrera Cup Deutschland Vice-Championship with Christian Engelhart

First Runner-Up title for MRS-Team after title in 2008

In an exciting season final of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany at the Hockenheimring, the Porsche-Pilots were delivering great fights for positions. MRS-driver Christian Engelhart was right in the middle and following a spectacular race, secured the Vice-Title in the Drivers’ Championship.

Engelhart set the right requirements with starting position four for the two remaining races of the 2015 season. But his closest contender, the Swiss Jeffrey Schmidt, qualified on Pole Position for both races.

Following a solid start into the 16th championship round, Engelhart was running unchallenged in P3, bringing home another podium finish. With the victory by Schmidt, the fight for the Runner-Up title remained exciting until the final race on Sunday, because Engelhart was now only eight points ahead in the rankings.

And it should be a real thrill: Engelhart had another good start, but was losing time to the front runners.

Both Sven Müller and Nicki Thiim overtook Engelhart on lap eight going into the hairpin, leaving the

MRS-driver in sixth position only. This was followed by a very close battle with de Phillippi, but Engelhart kept a cool head and the position. After a spin by Müller, Engelhart was able to get fifth position back, crossing the finishing line with just enough points ahead of second-place finisher, Jeffrey Schmidt.

Engelhart´s team-mate Spike Goddard had a good run in both races, making up ten positions in the last race of the year. The Australian had a light collision with his team-mate Elia Erhart, who was forced to retire in Race #1, but fought his way up into 16th place in Sunday´s race.

“Unfortunately, we were only able to win the Vice-Championship, but we did everything right for it this weekend”, said the 28-year-old Engelhart. “It was a really tough race, but I am glad that I managed to get the points I needed. I changed teams to MRS at the start of this year and we found common ground very early on. This title is for the entire team and everyone really deserves it. It was a great season and I am really excited about the season final for the Porsche Supercup at Austin (Texas) next week.”

After winning the Championship Title in 2008, it is the first Vice-Title for the team run by Karsten Molitor and Iris Dorr. The MRS-Crew will travel to Austin in Texas next week, where they will fight for the Porsche MOBIL 1 Supercup Championship with Christian Engelhart. Engelhart is currently in second place with 120 points, 17 points behind the leader Eng and ten ahead of Sven Müller, who is in third position.
