Sieders grabs last lap win in V8 Ute Surfers Street Fest

David “Sideways” Sieders has taken a miraculous last minute Race 1 win from ARMOR ALL Pole Winner George Miedecke in a final lap battle in Round 7 of the 2015 East Coast Bullbars Australian V8 Ute Racing Series at the Castrol Gold Coast 600, Friday, 23rd October.

The 7 lap race had 2 safety car periods; the first was only seconds into the first lap of the race when Kris Walton triggered a chain reaction involving Ryal Harris, Ryan Hansford on Andrew Fisher, which forced the Jesus Racing Ford into the wall where it retired just before Turn 1. Hansford managed to limp back to the pits but suffered extensive front end damage.

The second incident occurred off the start-line after Charlie Kovacs stalled his RED Express/ Air Road Holden on the grid and local driver Matt Nolan made contact with the veteran, Nolan retiring his General Carrying / Hayman Electrical Ford on the main-straight.

George Miedecke led the field on the restart with Kris Walton and David Sieders behind him, however another safety car was called after Peter Burnitt and Leigh Nicolaou made contact at Turn 11 and Nicolaou ending up in the fence.

Miedecke had a gun restart, however Walton made a move on the iseek Ford at the back straight on the last lap, the two touched opening up room for Sieders to sneak through and grab the lead, which he held onto for the final seconds of the race earning him the Steven Bradbury gold move of the moment.

“Sixth to first in a hot field like that I had a bit of luck, and then the final lap I knew I just needed to be close enough to take advantage if Kris had a go, and Kris had a go so I got them both,” said Sieders.

iSeek Racing’s Miedecke came home second, which along with walking away with a new Qualifying record (1:24.0278) record, $1000 cash and the ARMOR ALL Pole Award from this morning, made it a pretty good day.

“I just didn’t have the speed I had in qualifying and lacked a bit of turn and Kris had good pace, but it just gave me a bit of a touch up and put us both out of it, Sieders got a good run, which got him through to the lead but I can’t fault him for that, what could have been a race win we ended up second but at the end of the day we were still second so not bad,” said Miedecke.

Walton bought his Rentco Ford home in third ahead of Matt Stone Racing Wildcard Aaren Russell who posted a top result in fourth after fixing a broken diff from qualifying.

ARMOR ALL Drivers Championship leader Ryal Harris came home in fifth, Nathan Pretty in sixth, Adam Marjoram seventh, Craig Dontas in eighth, JMG Racing’s Jeremy Gray in ninth and Kim “The Assassin” Jane rounded out the top ten.

In post-race hearings, Walton was penalised 10 grid positions for the Lap 1 incident, and Leigh Nicolaou has a $500 suspended fine for the incident with Burnitt.

David Sieders pulled number 12 out of the Ballot draw, which will see Gerard McLeod start on the front row alongside 17year old rookie Mason Barbera for tomorrows Race 2 that will kick off at 10:30am.

The Race will be televised live on Fox Sports as well as Network Ten with Race 3 also televised live on both stations on Sunday, 25th October at 10:05am.
