Rookie Russell Takes Gold Coast V8 Ute Round 3

Debutant Aaren Russell has secured himself the Rookie Award, Race 3 and the Round win of the 2015 East Coast Bullbars Australian V8 Ute Racing Series at the Gold Coast 600, Sunday, 25th October.

 Aaren Russell started on the front row alongside Matt Stone Racing Teammate George Miedecke and had a ripper start off the line and held off pressure from Miedecke to take the win.

“I’m so rapt, I came here to learn the track to push for an Enduro drive here in the future and I never thought I’d walk away with the Round and Race win, I’m so thankful to Matt Stone Racing and Plus Fitness,” said Russell.

 George Miedecke held on to second for the race, which earnt him second for the Round, the iSeek backed racer has also moved into second in the ARMOR ALL Drivers Championship.

“We’re really happy with the podium and banking some extra  points for the championship, I did have a red hot go at Aaren but all credit to him especially on his Rookie weekend, he drove really well,” said Miedecke.

 Nathan Pretty had a great battle with David Sieders to bring his Burbank Holden home in third, in front of Sieders’ Mango Credit Holden in fourth.

 Gerard McLeod had a great start to move into third, but after some great racing with Pretty and Sieders came home in fifth, which was enough to get him on the Podium for the weekend taking out third for the Round.

 Kim Jane came home in sixth, Adam Marjoram in seventh, Craig Dontas eighth; Jeremy Gray in ninth and Ryal Harris had a great drive from 16th to round out the top ten.

 Kris Walton bought his Rentco Ford into the pits after battling with Craig Dontas and the wall at the back straight; he had a tyre change and managed to re-join the field to limp over the line.

 Cam Wilson also had a pit stop due to a flat tyre from Kerb hopping but made it back out to come home in 21st.

 Rookies Barbera and Nicolaou ended their race in pit lane due to damage.

 Debutant George Karadimas took out the ARMOR ALL Best Presented Award, Ryan Hansford claimed the DBA Hard Braker Award for overtaking 18 utes in Race 2 and Kim “The Assassin” Jane claimed the Masters Award.

 With the efforts of Miedecke and Russell, Matt Stone Racing walked away with the Team Award for the weekend.

 Ryal Harris leads the ARMOR ALL Drivers championship by 79 points heading into the final round of the Series at the Sydney 500 in December, George Miedecke is in second ahead of Adam Marjoram in third on 930 points.
