Torrential rain in Austin/USA has seen the tenth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup cancelled without a substitution. The eleventh and final round is planned for 11.30 hours (local time) on Sunday. Flooding on the Circuit of the Americas also prevented the qualifying session from being held on Saturday morning. To resolve this, the times from Friday’s free practice were used to ascertain the grid lineup. The fastest lap of each of the 30 drivers determined the grid for Saturday’s cancelled race, with the second fastest lap time ascertaining Sunday’s starting positions.
This puts Porsche-Junior Sven Müller (D/Team Lechner Racing Middle East) on pole position for the season finale. Müller has won four of the last five races and scored one second place. He shares the first grid row with his Lechner teammate Alex Riberas (The Heart of Racing by Lechner) from Spain. Series leader Philipp Eng (A/Market Leader Team by Project 1) tackles the race from the seventh grid spot, with the Austrian holding a 17-point advantage over Christian Engelhart (D/MRS GT-Racing), who starts from a lowly 18th.
As part of the Formula 1 weekend, round eleven of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will be broadcast live by Sky Deutschland with a preliminary report from 17.15 hrs (CET). Eurosport airs re-live coverage in Germany starting at 19.00 hrs (CET).
