Lone Star Racing Ready for First Race Start in More Than Three Months

Sunday at Road AmericaDan Knox and Mike Skeen Co-Drive No. 80 ACS Manufacturing Dodge Viper GT3-R; Start From Inside Row Seven Dan Knox, co-driver Mike Skeen and Lone Star Racing will make their first race start in more than three months tomorrow in the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America where the No. 80 ACS Manufacturing Dodge Viper GT3-R will start from the inside of Row Seven.Round 8 of 11 races on the 2016 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Daytona (GTD) class schedule, the weekend’s featured Continental Tire Road Race Showcase can be seen live tomorrow, Sunday, August 7, on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) at 4 p.m. EDT.Lone Star Racing last raced at Laguna Seca in early May where Knox and Skeen co-drove together for the first time.“Being out of the car for three months, I got a bit rusty but every time I get in I’ve been improving around two seconds,” said Knox, who qualified the Viper 13th in the GTD field. “I just needed a little more time, I think we could have been there and had a better result than what we’re getting in qualifying.”Skeen can’t wait to run another race on a track that is among his favorites.“We’re excited to be back obviously,” Skeen said. “It’s a big task for the team to come together after not being together for three months. All of these other teams have been at it and getting a rhythm going, so it’s hard to dive in with limited practice, get Dan up to speed on a track he doesn’t spend a lot of time on, and get the car sorted all at once.”Lone Star didn’t quite hit on a long-run setup at Laguna Seca, but Knox and the team are confident they will have some full-stint staying power in the Road America race.“We struggled all weekend at Laguna Seca trying to get a setup in the car but feel like we have it here,” Knox said. “The car is running well, I just need to improve, get used to this track, especially the high speed turns. I will get more comfortable, but the car will last the stint compared to Laguna where we didn’t have the setup to last the whole race. Road America should be a good race for us.”

Skeen posted the second quickest time in the No. 80 in yesterday's afternoon practice session.“The fact that we’ve had a car since yesterday afternoon that we were pretty happy with let us try some other things today,” Skeen said. “We can try other things and always just come back to where we were if needed. That certainly puts us in a stronger position.”After first racing in IMSA GTD last year at Circuit of The Americas (COTA), Lone Star is contesting a limited schedule of four races this season. In addition to Laguna Seca and Road America, Lone Star is also competing in the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR (Virginia International Raceway), August 26 – 28, and the Lone Star Le Mans at COTA (Circuit of The Americas), September 15 – 17. Race-day kicks-off with a 20-minute warm-up at 9:40 a.m. CDT before the featured Continental Tire Road Race Showcase main event goes green at 3:05 p.m. CDT.
