Zonzini, Spengler perform gritty come back for Bonaldi

A hot sunny weather greeted Bonaldi Motorsport's yellow cars for both Qualifying Practice and Race 1 of the fifth round of ADAC GT Master this Saturday.

The morning Qualifying Practice was particularly successful for the Italian team, despite a difference of less than a second Patrick Kujala could only place his Lamborghini Huracán on grid 17 while its twin car will line up 30th due to slight mechanical issues.

Both the crews were ready for an attacking race looking for any occasions to recover positions. Kujala made an unfortunate start and on the first lap he lost three places.

Zonzini had an amazing first lap making up ten positions. Both the crews maintained a steady pace until the beginning of the fifth lap when a Bentley car, driven by Hamprecht, could not slow at the first braking and rear-ended a totally guiltiness Kujala who was starting the curve.

The damage to his Lamborghini put him out of the race and the Safety Car and triggering a safety car.The Safety Car neutralised the race for five laps during which Zonzini took advantage of a problem to a tyre of a BMW car and reached the nineteenth position.

No surprises on the restart but during the following lap the Safety Car joined the racetrack again because of an accident which occurred between an Audi car driven by Stoll and the one driven by Geipel. Zonzini was seventeenth and on the second restart he reached sixteenth position.

At this point a Pit Stop was compulsory for the Bonaldi Motorsport crew during the eighteenth lap. Unfortunately, on his way to the racetrack, Spengler was hindered by other cars and at the end of the drivers’ turnover, he had lost three places compared to the position gained by Zonzini before the pit stop.

A car stopped on the racetrack allowed Spengler to recover eighteenth position but the Safety Car was needed again. At the restart, the German driver was seventeenth and performed a challenging fight against Delatraz’s BMW. An accident to three cars at the last chicane recalled the Safety Car again. After four laps led by the Safety Car, the race started again and Spengler raced aggressively to thirteenth place with a disadvantage of only 12”695 from the leader. Taking into consideration all stops due to the Safety Car, the Italian-German crew performed a small marvel gaining seventeen positions from the race start.
