TW Steel DMAX Championship showdown at Sandown

TITLE BATTLES SHIFT UP A GEAR

The 2016 TW Steel DMAX Championship celebrated its seventh round with a captivating display of racing at Daytona Sandown Park. The action kicked off in cool conditions and under overcast skies, but the racing was anything but lukewarm, with the Heats and Endurance outings alike producing non-stop wheel-to-wheel thrills around the popular Surrey circuit’s unique reverse alternate layout.Tomasz Zaustowicz looked like the driver to beat in the Heavies class after claiming pole position, a hat-trick of Heat triumphs and Enduro glory, but he was overhauled on lap four of the Final by championship leader Chris Carter and had to work hard to hold off Jamie Pender for the runner-up spoils.Junior Inkart graduates William Thomas, Axel Slijepcevic and Max O’Shaughnessy paced the way in the Lights Final, as Qualifying pole-sitter and Enduro winner Tom Golding could manage no better than fifth. In the Inters category, meanwhile, Bobby Trundley fought his way to victory in the Final. Close title rival and championship leader Lee Hollywood placed second ahead of Chris Alcock, with Tor Ryan sprinting to a runaway lights-to-flag success in the Enduro encounter.Round eight will take place at Whilton Mill in Northants this Sunday (11 September), with all of the title battles finely-poised. Daytona Motorsport would like to thank all the drivers and extends its congratulations to the Sandown Park podium finishers: Heavies Final1) Chris Carter2) Tomasz Zaustowicz3) Jamie PenderLights Final1) William Thomas2) Axel Slijepcevic3) Max O'ShaughnessyInters Final1) Bobby Trundley2) Lee Hollywood3) Chris AlcockHeavies Enduro1) Tomasz Zaustowicz2) Adam Nakar3) Tom PugheLights Enduro1) Tom Golding2) William Thomas3) Cameron NobleInters Enduro1) Tor Ryan2) Michael Coppin3) Tom Eastwood
