Award for Castle Combe Chairman

The chairman of Castle Combe Circuit, Howard Strawford, has been presented with a prestigious award for his services to motor sport.

The Roy James Trophy was presented to Mr Strawford at the recent annual dinner and awards presentation of the British Racing and Sports Car Club.

Instigated in 1971 to recognise the achievements of the ‘individual or group making the greatest contribution towards the furtherance of motor sport’ the silver trophy was made by Roy James whilst serving his sentence for his part in the Great Train Robbery!

Previous recipients of the award include Sir Frank Williams, Johnny Herbert, Damon Hill, Murray Walker and Eddie Jordan.

“This is a great honour and I am so pleased to receive this magnificent trophy from the club which I have been a proud member of for so many years”, commented Mr Strawford.
