Could you be a Marshal?

If you’ve watched Formula 1 on TV, you might well have wondered how easy it is to become one of the ‘in crowd’ seeing things from the other side of the fence.

Whilst motor racing is a notoriously difficult sport to break into from a competitor’s point of view, there is a way to become involved which requires no previous skills or experience and no financial outlay.

The answer is to become a marshal, a highly valuable group of individuals without whom no race meeting of any kind could take place.

Marshalling is an activity open to any fit and healthy person over the age of 16 and is one of the most exciting voluntary occupations. As well as the thrill of being involved with the action on the track, marshals are trained in numerous skills, including fire-fighting and first aid. There is also a 'career structure' so marshals can begin in a relatively undemanding position and progress as their experience and training grows, ultimately achieving positions of major responsibility.

To find out whether you could or would want to be a marshal, the Castle Combe Circuit is holding it’s annual 'Marshal's Training Day' on SUNDAY 13TH MARCH 05, at the Circuit starting at 8am.

The training day is specifically designed to give potential new recruits an in depth perspective as to what is required, following which they should be in a position to make an informed choice as to whether or not to become a marshal.

Interested attendees should contact the following for further information;

Email enquiries to the chief marshal, ADRIAN FAWDINGTON, on afawdington@hotmail.com

Telephone enquiries to lead instructor, MIKE SKELTON, on 01633 770566

Many marshals who began at Castle Combe now assist at Grand Prix races, so if you come along on Sunday you could soon be on the other side of the fence and get your face on TV if you are lucky!
