Spedeworth South brings the Plough Lane Classic back to Wimbledon Stadium on Sunday, March 6th at 5pm. The event, open to unlimited over 1800cc National Bangers, was one of the highlights of the banger season from 1989 until its curtain call in 1997 and fans are delighted to see its return.
With the drivers able to field the biggest and fastest cars they can find, and with everyone keen to make an impression on the event’s big return to its home track, the night is sure to produce some massive crashes and multi-car pile ups as the drivers push their cars to total destruction.
Some of the country’s top National Banger pilots booked in for the reborn Plough Lane Classic. Given the nature of the event it is a sure bet that they will be looking to bring some spectacular cars along to join the usual hordes of Jaguars, Granadas and Volvos that will be turned into scrap metal before the night is over.
The night will end with a no-holds barred demolition derby ensuring that any cars that have made it through the night’s festival of automotive destruction will be sent to the scrap yard in the sky in fine style as the Banger pilots attempt to ensure that their car is the last one left moving on the track – a feat achieved by hammering the opposition as hard as possible and hoping that your car survives.
Action of a non-contact variety is on the bill with the Rookie Rods. These cars are designed to let fans with an average bank balance get behind the wheel and sample oval racing. The formula’s minimum cost has proved successful in getting fans onto the circuit, leading to large starting grids and plenty of action.
The Ministox will also join the National Bangers on the night. This training formula for 11-16 year old drivers produces some excellent racing as the youngsters learn the skills of oval racing and give the fans the chance to see the starts of tomorrow in action.
With top National Banger racers set to do battle at the return of one of the sport’s best loved meetings, the racing, wrecking, rollovers and crashing will be non stop from the second the first green flag drops to the last metal twisting moment of the demolition derby at Wimbledon Stadium, Britain’s finest oval racing circuit.
