RLR confirms Carrera Cup quintet
Red Line Racing has confirmed a four-car squad for the 2005 Carrera Cup GB. Defending champion Richard Westbrook, Nigel Rice and Jason Young are all back with the Cleveland squad, while Stephen Shanly joins the team for his debut Carrera Cup season.Having guided Westbrook to the 2004 drivers' title and wrapped up the team championship in the process, Red Line Racing has a tough act to follow in 2005. But team boss Simon Leonard is delighted with his driving squad and is determined to keep the team at the front of the Carrera Cup."It's an excellent line-up; they're all good lads," says Leonard. Westbrook will, inevitably, be one of the title favourites, while both Rice and Young will be building on their experience and aiming for podium finishes. Shanly, meanwhile, is on a Porsche learning curve but has already impressed Leonard with his early pace in testing.Having won the National Supersports title for the last two seasons, Shanly is stepping up the sports car racing ladder for 2005 and is expected to be a major contender as the season develops. Having also raced in Formula 3, Shanly could be a real darkhorse as his experience in the 911GT3 Cup builds. With Westbrook switching to a newly-built car, Shanly will race the car that Westbrook took to the 2004 title. The RLR squad will test at Donington Park and Snetterton next week before preparing for the exclusive Carrera Cup test at Snetterton on Tuesday 15 March.
