Gates open in less than a week for the 53rd running of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, America's premier sports car endurance race and ticket sales appear to be at a record-breaking pace.
"With a world class field highlighted by an incredible entry in the GT1 category, its not surprising tickets sales are almost 10% ahead of last year's record attendance," stated Sebring President and GM Tres Stephenson.
Hundreds of fans are already lined-up at the front gates for the opening of the track at 7 a.m. Wednesday. The Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring starts at 10:45 am on Saturday, culminating four days of racing action on the legendary 3.7-mile Sebring circuit, originally a WWII B-17 training base.
"There are so many big stories this year," added Stephenson. "The debut of Aston Martin and Maserati, Frank Biela trying to become the first ever four-time winner, the rivalry between Audi and the Dyson Lolas . it's going to be a great show."
The American Le Mans Series (ALMS) opener will feature many of the teams that compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans later this year. Often called both the "Super Bowl of Sports Car Racing" and the "Woodstock of Motorsports," Sebring is a festive gathering of sports car enthusiasts and Spring Breakers from around the world.
As America's most fan-friendly motorsports facility, Sebring offers unique attractions, a wide range of non-stop entertainment, and opportunities to get up close and personal with the cars and stars of the ALMS. Sebring International Raceway is located only 80 miles from Disney World and less than 100 miles from the Tampa/St Petersburg area.
Sebring's historic 3.7-mile road course offers a wide variety of camping and viewing options and both reserved trackside and unreserved campsites are still available. Gates open at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, and remain open 24 hours a day through Saturday. Children 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult, so it's an economical way for families to enjoy a world-class event at affordable prices. In addition, college students with a valid college ID can purchase tickets at special discount rates.
