Club Class Registrations Break Into Double Figures

At least a dozen drivers will take part in the ‘Club Class’ of the 2005 Formula Renault BARC Championship after 24-year old James Green (Torquay, Devon) became the latest driver to register for the burgeoning series.

Green, who will compete with the Muzz Race outfit, has previously raced in club level karting and Monopostos and joins an ever-growing list of competitors in the Formula Renault BARC class for cars engineered prior to the year 2000.

The division is proving to be very popular with novice competitors, young chargers and seasoned campaigners alike, so hopes are high the 2005 Formula Renault BARC Championship will be a fantastically competitive series.

WL Racing’s teenage star Cameron Jackson (Scampton, Lincolnshire), brother of Formula BMW competitor Dominik, is likely to be one of the Club Class title favourites alongside Logic Motorsport/X-Dream’s Martin Bloss (Andover, Hampshire) and DS Motorsport’s David Scott (Heathfield, East Sussex).

Richard Ellingworth (Harlaxton, Grantham), who has joined forces under the X-Dream banner with Bloss, will also be hoping for a competitive season, as will JH Motorsport’s James Heffernan (London) and the father and son team of Formula Renault BARC mainstays Bob and Ian Pearson (Didcot, Oxon).

Former back-to-back 1700 Class Champion John Johnsen (Whitby, North Yorkshire) makes a return to the series to contest a minimum of four rounds in the Club Class, while Andy Skriczka (Aldershot, Hampshire) will race in his ex-Kimi Raikkonen Mygale. Meanwhile, complete race novice Bill Allen (Hungerford, Berkshire) will make his championship debut as will newcomer Melvyn Ashdown (Crawley, West Sussex).

Formula Renault BARC Championship Manager Simon North commented: “It’s tremendous news we’ve reached double figures already with Club Class registrations and there are certainly more to come over the coming weeks.

“The target is to make the Formula Renault BARC Championship the best single-seater series at club level and we’re now well on course for achieving our aim, which is absolutely superb.

“Renault UK believes very firmly in supporting grass roots motorsport which is why we’ve put more input into the Formula Renault BARC Championship. We’re certainly leading the way with our support of club racing and I’d like to thank the BARC, and in particular Dale Wells, for all of the hard work which has made this a reality.”

Wells, the Competitions Manager at the British Automobile Racing Club, added: “It’s very important Renault UK has given increased backing to the Formula Renault BARC Championship and the introduction of the FR2000 class has given the series a fresh impetus, enabling us to attract new drivers.

“The way things are looking we’re likely to have a grid of around 20 cars, with both classes combined, so it promises to be one of the best ever seasons of Formula Renault BARC action.”

The list of FR2000 Class registrations will be announced shortly but in the meantime, Formula Renault BARC competitors have been invited to take part in an official pre-season test session at Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk on Tuesday, 22nd March.
