Caravan Carnage at Bovington

If you have ever crawled along at 10mph behind a car and caravan on a hot Easter Bank Holiday trip to the coast, and entertained ideas that have very little to do with the highway code about getting past the road-hogging duo, Spedeworth South  offers the revenge you have been looking for with a National Banger's Caravan Race and Destruction Derby at Bovingdon race track, Good Friday March 25th at 1.30pm.

The National Bangers will be hitched up to the dreaded caravans and pull them faster than they have ever moved when the green flag drops. Caravan Club, members had better look the other way as the winner will be the last car and caravan left moving as the race turns into a demolition derby.

By the end of the race (and most certainly by the end of the demolition derby) most of the caravans have been reduced to little more than a set of wheels attached to the tow bar, bringing wicked smiles to the faces of anyone who has had to endure being stuck behind a "happy camper" doing 30 and causing a 10 mile tailback in their wake.

The Rookie Bangers will also be in action on the day. The Rookies will be chasing points in the opening round of their Track Championship, so expect plenty of cars on the track and hotly contested races as soon as the green flag drops.

The Rookies will be joined by the awesome Lightning Rods as the Ford Sierra based machines take to the Herts circuit for their first outing. The rapid Lightning Rods are officially a non-contact formula, but their no-holds barred racing style has earned them the nickname 'Frightening Rods' as so many are left as smoking wrecks before the days racing is over.

To add to the day's action-packed racing programme, the Ministox will also be taking to the circuit providing very close racing from their young 11-16 year old drivers.

With three great formulas in action, plus the grin-inducing caravan destruction derby, free parking, and a great view of all the action from high-banked spectator areas, Bovingdon (situated off B4005 Bovingdon, Nr Hemel Hempstead, Herts, on the airfield complex) looks set to provide a high-octane start to the Bank Holiday - unless, of course, you are a caravan lover.
