Legends - Five go National

No less than five more drivers from last year’s Scottish Legends Cars Championship are making the move up into the UK National Championship which gets underway at Oulton Park on Saturday 8th April.

Last year’s Scottish champion Derek Pierce announced his National move several months ago but he will now be joined by five more from the Knockhill based competition.

Heading the list of graduates is 37 year old Dave Newsham who made a one-off National appearance last season in the last round where he won the final at Croft from the back of the grid.  He then went on to win the Winter Championship at Rockingham continuing his record of bagging a race win and fastest lap at each Legends circuit he has visited.  The Inverness man is not fazed by the travelling involved in the National Championship – he lives two and half hours north of his local circuit (Knockhill) but us relishing the prospect of racing on new tracks against new competition.

Joining Newsham is another ex Karter, Chris Greive who was one of several drivers from the north east of England to race in the SMRC championship last year.  21 year old Greive won five Legends races last season, is the current Knockhill Legends lap record holder and a former 125 gearbox karting champion.

Newcastle based Malcolm and Daniel Clark are also moving up from the SMRC championship into the Nationals.  The uncle / nephew team have a wealth of karting experience and have both been regulars to the Legends podium.  The fifth new National recruit is another Inverness based driver, Jeff Stewart, who completed only a limited programme in Scottish Legends last season.

The Scottish Legends Cars Championship itself continues to flourish with new drivers still registering and grids of over 20 cars expected throughout the season.
