BMW Power Festival Showcases the Best of BMW Racing and Road Machinery
The first ever BMW Power Festival will give British motorsport fans the chance to see a Formula 1 car and the Grand Prix stars of the future on the same race meeting programme. The unique event at Rockingham circuit on the 21st and 22nd May will include a demonstration by the BMW WilliamsF1 Team and wheel to wheel racing by the youngsters in the Formula BMW UK Championship.
This will be the first time a modern day Formula 1 car has been seen at a race meeting at the Northamptonshire circuit since 2003 and at the wheel of the WilliamsF1 BMW will be one of Britain’s most successful current racing drivers, Andy Priaulx. Andy won the 2004 FIA European Touring Car Championship in a BMW 320i and has already tested the Formula 1 car in Spain as recognition for what he achieved. He is one of only a handful of drivers with a BMW Motorsport works contract and in 2005 will race in the FIA World Touring Car Championship for BMW Team UK.
The competitors in the Formula BMW UK Championship can be as young as 15-years-old, but their single seater racing cars have many of the refinements and all the important safety features of their bigger brother F1 car. The youngsters will take part in two races on the Sunday and if their visit to the circuit in 2004, in the inaugural year of the UK series, is anything to go by the racing will be exciting and a real crowd pleaser.
The Rockingham circuit is the home of the BMW Performance Centre and this is the first race meeting held jointly by BMW UK and Rockingham. As well as a full racing programme and demonstrations by the cream of the marque’s racing machinery, the public will have the opportunity to view the entire BMW product range.
Tickets prices are £15 (adv) or £20 (gate) for adults on Sunday 22nd May and £5 (gate only) on Saturday 21st May. Children 16 and under receive free admission. Anyone purchasing an advance ticket will be entered into a free draw, with the lucky winner (must be over 18) receiving a lap of the track in the brand new BMW M5 course car driven by Andy Priaulx.
