Preparations are well underway for the 2005 International Welsh Rally, the rally will take place on 30th April-1st May. Having attracted its fair share of champions in previous years with the Russell Brookes, David Llewellyn, the McRae clan and Richard Burns all competing in the 80's and 90's and in 2004 the rally was won by Stuart Jones, who at twenty years old is heading in the right direction for rally stardom.This years event will introduce a new corporate partner in the form of Matador Tyres. Supporting the rally for the first time will see the Llandrindod Wells based firm allowing scrutineering formalities to take place at their premises with the rally head quarters also within the town. The 2005 rally promises to deliver some testing competition for all competitors, with something to cater for all tastes. In fact the organisers have had to apply for six MSA permits to cover the variety of events on offer for the weekend.The International section of the rally will be split into two legs, with the first leg hosting some classic forest stages in Mid and South Wales, roads also used on the British round of the World Rally Championship, the Wales Rally GB, before a switch to tarmac over the infamous Epynt Military ranges. The leg comprising 43 gravel stage miles and 14 tarmac stage miles. Leg two will be an all tarmac affair with a total of 63 miles again over Epynt, giving a two day total mileage of over 120 miles.The forestry section will also play host to the Millers Oils Welsh Clubmans Forest Rally Championship and the Special Tuning UK Peugeot 206 1400 Challenge. The inaugural Subaru Challenge will contest two rounds over the weekend, with one round on gravel and the second round on asphalt.All asphalt stages will be contested by the Armajaro-MSA British Historic Rally Championship, Welsh National Tarmacadam Championship, JAM Motorsport Heart of England Championship and the RallySport Challenge.
