Jordan flies to 5 wins at Lydden Hill

Andrew Jordan scored a remarkable run of five victories in one day as he started his 2005 motorsport season at Lydden Hill in Kent on Easter Monday (28 March). The 15-year old Andrew from Sutton Coldfield competed in a hectic schedule of eight races as the event comprised the opening rounds of both the British Junior Rallycross Championship and the BTDA Junior Rallycross Championship. In all, he contested six heats and two finals and his tally was five wins, two seconds and a sixth place.Unfortunately, the sixth place came in the final of the British championship round after a first-lap incident left him struggling to the finish with an ailing car. Andrew started the British championship final on the front row of the grid and as the pack headed for the first corner, Andrew and his two major rivals were running three abreast. In the squeeze, Andrew tried to give his rivals space and found himself running onto the grass on the edge of the track, where his Mini was then launched up into the air by a draining ditch. The car was pitched high into the air and landed heavily on its nose. The heavy impact damaged the rotor arm and though he carried on, Andrew was handicapped by a misfiring engine and could only struggle home sixth. "It was nobody's fault," acknowledged Andrew. "It was just a racing incident. But it was frustrating as we'd got the pace to win the race." Later, the team discovered that the incident had bent the front subframe of the car!Undeterred, Andrew and the team had the car repaired for the final of the BTRDA Championship round and he duly stormed to a commanding victory, pulling off two stunning overtaking moves as he tigered through from third place in front of a bumper crowd of fans. Now, Andrew and the team will turn their attention to the second round of the British Junior Championship at Mondello Park in Ireland on 24 April.
