Jon Barnes has been confirmed as the second driver to get the chance to race in the Carrera Cup GB in the Porsche Cars with Team Autosport entry. Barnes will race the VIP car at Thruxton on 1 May and completed a successful test with the team on Friday (1 April). The 21-year old former karting ace has spent the last three years racing Caterhams and is now eager to progress into Carrera Cup fulltime. In 2004 he won the Caterham Eurocup and finished second in the UK with 7 wins and 17 podiums from 17 races. However, he currently has no drive arranged for 2005 and is thrilled at being selected for the Team Autosport car."I'm very thankful for the opportunity to drive the Porsche at Thruxton. This could be the only chance I get to race this year and it is a great chance to showcase my ability," says the Southampton-based racer. "I want to be on the pace and a couple of top five finishes would be great. I just want to make a good impression."He settled in well during the 90-minute test at Thruxton. "It's very different and I was just learning about the car. Now I've got four weeks to think about it before the race weekend! Meanwhile, at Donington Park for this weekend's opening pair of Carrera Cup races (9/10 April), Dan Eagling will race the Team Autosport car. The former British GT front-runner is working to graduate into the Le Mans Endurance Series and is elated to be starting his season with the high-profile guest drive.
